TN: 2014 Georges Remy Champagne Premier Cru Les Muits

2014 Georges Remy Champagne Premier Cru Les Muits - France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru (11/6/2020)

Purchased for $28 at auction. This normally sells for $70. Although the Remy family has been growing grapes in Champagne for 200 years, this is the first vintage which Georges Remy has bottled his own Champagne. Before this he was making a small amount of well regarded red wine from the family vineyards since 2011. The estate owns 4.7 hectares of vines in mostly Grand Cru villages. He only keeps about 20% of his grapes for his own production and sells off the rest to finance expansion.

This wine is 100% Chardonnay sourced from the top of a single vineyard in the Premier Cru village of Tauxières. The vines average 40 years old. Only 286 bottles made. Disgorged July 2018. No dosage. Salty nose with some lemony butter. Notes of green apple, flint and chalk. Clean and focused with an exuberant bead. Lean finish. This is very young and will benefit with some aging. 93 points.
