TN: 2003 Outpost Howell Mountain Petite Sirah

Digging through the offsite, figured it was a good time to check in. Very dark purple, with zero sign of bricking, dense and opaque. The nose gives away some age - instead of that dark, piercing, dense fruit this now displays dusty, leathery, spicy notes back up by notes of plum, bramble, and a bit of alcohol heat. This carries through to the palate, with baking spice, dusty tannins, leather, with black fruits taking a secondary role. A bit of heat on the palate too, I think it’s time to drink these up as I expect it will just got “hotter” as the fruit continues to fade. Still a very pleasant quaff, if not overly complex.

This is one of the few TRB wines I never enjoyed, yet thought I’d love. It was always a little to blocky and clunky.

FWIW, I had about a glass and a half left over today, not preserved in any way - exactly the same, lol.
