TN: 2018 William & Mary Proprietary Red Shifflett Ranch

Ripe fruit without being a fruit bomb. Elegant, but has size and weight. Soft and velvety on the front, but amps up as it goes.

Inky purple color. Big nose of soft purple fruit and cocoa, with some (gentle) bay leaf or menthol.

Ripe, but not over-ripe plum, and blackberry. More cocoa and menthol on the palate. Long tannic finish with some stone fruit, cocoa (again), and gentle white and bell pepper. Nice tannin structure, without being harsh or overly tannic. Beautiful at a young age. (94 pts.)

Great note, Jon, thanks for sharing. The 2017 version, from FallTacular last February–my #4 out of 50 wines tasted that day

2017 William & Mary Proprietary Red

Fab nose–spices, blackberry, some torrefaction, coffee, cocoa. And in the mouth, it’s really good. Really full of confidence. Sweet but in a nicely complementary way to the fruit and spice. Will has every reason to be proud of this one. #4

Thank you for that great note!

One of my favorite Cali cabs!
