TN: 2017 San Fereolo Dogliani Superiore

Interesting. I am generally not a huge dolcetto fan, but this is not a typical dolcetto. Popped and poured at cellar temp. Smoky black fruit, vanilla and dark earth on the nose. Sweet black fruit and vanilla on the attack but nice drying tannins and acid on the finish give it some good balance. Would be a great pairing with some braised meat, like an osco bucco. Ready to drink today, may pick up a little complexity with some more bottle time, but not a long term ager.

Really enjoying this domaine. They continue to put out late release dolcetto and barbera bottlings that impress. Current release of “1593” is 2008 and “Austri” is 2011. Pricing is fair too

Had an '07 1593 Dogliani from this producer early this year that was really good and still on the young side. Dolcetto with a dark, plummy, structured side.

There are very few Dolcettos I like enough to buy. San Fereolo is at the top of the list.
