Christmas Eve with Mount Eden

Had this with the thickest swordfish steak of my life!

1990 Mount Eden Estate Chardonnay
Deep golden color.
Mature, complex nose of lemon, coconut and caramel.
Elegant, delicate lemon/lime fruit entry with a touch of marshmallow.
Great acid/fruit balance in the long red grapefruit finish.
This 30 year old CA Chard is still kickin’ ass and actually improved as the evening wore on.
Certainly, there’s only a hand full of CA Chards that could hold up this well. A remarkable example… [worship.gif]

Mount Eden Vineyards is one of my favorite domestic wineries. I have never had a twenty year old domestic chard. I would be curious as to how much oxidation it experienced and if the color was dark golden brown as so often happens to old whites.

There was only a touch of oxidation evidenced by the slightly caramel nose and touch of marshmallow in the taste.
It was remarkably fresh for it’s age!

It was a light golden sorta like a slightly aged Sauternes.

GMTA, as we opened the 1993 last night. Your notes describe our wine closely as well. A nice Christmas Eve treat!
