TN: 1940 Cornet Pineau des Charentes

Drank this with my dad for his 80th Birthday. It had an intriguing nose of white mushroom, ripe sweet peach, smoky spirit and grilled nuts. It had enough sweetness to work really well with a Golden Gaytime ice-cream cake, but with real savoury nuance. The finish had some spirity punch and was fresh and long.

That’s great!

I’ve had vieux Pineau because made with XO cognac but never a vintage Pineau.

Any idea when it was bottled?

Interesting . For most of my life , I spend my holidays in the Charente . Drank a lot of pineau but I never realised it could age that much .
