Guess the wine & critic

Been cleaning up an old paper stash and came across this:

“First year and hell of a wine. Like Vintage Port. Perhaps slightly overdone, but impressive…
A modern interpretation of an ancient style of wine. Don’t ask the price, which will be out of this world.”
JS - Chateau Bellvue-Mondotte, St Emilion, 2001I have a couple of comments and complaints about this. First, “Vintage Port” is a good thing…for Port. Not for this wine.
Second, it’s not a Roman wine so not sure how “ancient” it is. Third, sadly I won’t ever be asking the price with a warning like this.
So many warning lights flashing!

My guess was SQN

Didn’t guess the reviewer

“…like vintage Port, but slightly overdone.” And he calls it a hell of a wine. Thats funny right there.

That would be my guess as well - perhaps RMP . . .

Cheers

not nearly enough adjectives for RMP

So true, as “liquid viagra” is nowhere to be seen not the use of any French words to describe common things (e.g. paine grille)!

Read Parker’s note on the 2003.

It’s pure candy.

Got the reviewer right, but no idea about the wine

Before I looked at the spoiler, I guessed a Dal Forno from the 80s.

I would avoid any wine based on a review like that, and the critic too.

That is where I went. 1980s Quintarelli or dal Forno Amarone - RMP
