2005 Paul Bara Special Club and 1985 Labogerce Margaux

NYE wines:

  1. Bara was in a beautiful place, which it has not always been. Apple, brioche, lovely balance, not too sweet, long finish.
  2. The Margaux came by way of a cellar that was handed off to us. It was surprisingly good. Plum core remained, albeit it melds almost immediately with white mushroom, tobacco–furls around the tongue for a tangy, compelling finish. Mindblowingly drinkeable, classic Bordeaux.

Nice note. Always a treat to read non-mainstream wines like 1985 Labegorce-Zede (spelling in full for those who may eventually need to do a local search) doing good.

Thanks, Ramon.
It was a beauty. Confusingly, however it was not the Labegorce-Zede, but Labegorce. (See pic below.) If I have the story right–from Leve’s site or might have been the Chateau’s itself?–Labegorce-Zede was a neighbor and (rival) then got bought up by Labegorce, which is today the only extant chateau.
