TN: 2016 Sottimano Barbaresco Basarin (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco)

An elegant sculpture holding a piece of 50-grit sandpaper. This will take a lot of time to come into true drinking form, but should be glorious when it does. The material is there, but patience will be required. My early look was for purely reference purposes. Left half the bottle to check later this week.

I have tried a couple bottles from this producer, and I agree that patience is necessary. I had an 2008 Pajore last fall. Very fragrant with good intensity from opening, but the acidity/tannins still needed a long slow-ox to integrate with the fruit and earthy notes. It was fantastic on the second day.

Had the other half of the bottle last night. Fruit was pulled back, which doesn’t surprise me after two full days in the fridge, but it was still very fine. I think I will leave my other bottles at least until 2026-2030 before I even try another one.
