TN: 1996 Gérard Mugneret Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots

A savoury nose of smoked meats, root vegetable and earth. It is pure and unadulterated, expressive of flavour. The mid-palate is a little lean, held tightly by its minerally acidity. With air, cherry fruits sweeten at the wine’s core. The finish is fine and it has excellent cut. Floral spice notes fan out on the finish.

I haven’t come across a bottle of the Suchots but their Echezeaux and Boudots from 1996 have been really nice.

Sounds like a typical 96, still with some upside, but one wonders when the legendary 96 acidity will loosen its grip!
