TN: Two New German Rieslings...(short/boring)

Tried these two new German Rieslings on Wed:

  1. Schloss Lieser Thomas Haag Riesling Kabinett (Pradikatswein; A.P.Nr. 2589314 419; 8.5%; www.Weingut-Schloss-Lieser.De; SkurnikWines) Lieser/Mosel 2018: Med.light gold color; lovely very fragrant R/mango/pineapple/floral rather pungent/Mosel valve oil/petrol very slight SO2 some flinty/mineral quite attractive nose; quite tart/tangy off-dry (1.0% r.s.?) fairly strong floral/mango/pineapple/R light flinty/mineral light petrol/Mosel valve oil lovely flavor; very long tart/tangy light Mosel alve oil strong R/mango/pineapple bit flinty/mineral off-dry finish; a lovely pretty classic Mosel Kabinett a bit on the pricey side; needs several yrs to resolve the r.s. and should go out 8-10 yrs. $28.50 (KK)

  1. Piedmont Filzen Riesling Kabinett (Pradikatswein; A.P.Nr. 3 525 017 3 20; 9.5%; SkurnikWines; www.Selbach-Riesling.De) Weingut Piedmont/Filzen/Saar 2019: Med.light gold color w/ bit of dissolved CO2 bubbles; rather steely/mineral/stony/flinty/metallic slight aromatic/insecticide very slight R/mango rather austere nose; very tart/tangy/metallic near dry/austere rather steely/flinty/mineral very slight R/mango quite old-timey Saar R flavor; very long very tart/tangy/metallic/steely slight R/floral/fruit rather flinty/mineral austere finish; a very old-timey austere expression of Saar R; not very attractive now & pretty austere but much like an old-timey Saar or Alsace R and should put on weight & be spectacular in 10 yrs; well-priced at $21.50 (KK)

A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. I liked both of these R quite a lot. The had just arrived at Kokomans & I wanted to give them first shot. The Lieser still showed lots of unresolved r.s. and not very food-friendly right now, but should age into something very good. The Piedmont was an old-timey Saar R like you seldom see anymore, quite austere right now & not fun to drink…but should evolve into a very special wine w/ age.

Good notes. I am confused why you linked to Selbach-Oster for the Piedmont riesling. Are they owned by S-O?

8-10 years? Bet it is good much longer than that.

I’ll be there Tuesday. should pick these up.
