TN: 2004 Tablas Creek - "Esprit de Beaucastel Panoplie" (USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles)

2004 Tablas Creek Esprit de Beaucastel Panoplie - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (12/25/2020)
– decanted 1.5 hours before initial taste –
– tasted non-blind over 2 to 3 hours –
– 69% Mourvedre, 21% Grenache, 10% Syrah –
– magnum –

NOSE: expressive; red-fruited; floral; showing beautifully at the moment.

BODY: medium bodied.

TASTE: concentrated raspberry; 14.6% alc. is noticeable; a bit earthy; hint of leather. In a really nice spot, showing some tertiary character. Further ageing is a gamble, imo, as the high alcohol worries me, and this simply comes-across as a big wine that may very well fall apart quickly from here on out. Drink Now.

Thanks Brian. I have been meaning to try some of these Tablas “Beaucastel” wines. I love Beaucastel wines, but finding older ones has become more difficult.

Hi Anthony,

You really do need to try the Tablas lineup. They are, imo, one of the best CARhone producers, and have been for quite some time. [cheers.gif]

Opened the 2000 just last night. Still youthful for me.

You clearly prefer your wines on the…umm…older side.

champagne.gif Yup!
