WN: Two Solminer Gruners...(short/boring)

Had these two Gruners late last week after my return from Bakersfield:

  1. Solminer GrunerVeltliner SpearVnyd/SantaRitaHills (185 cs; 13.8%) 2019: Med.gold color; fairly strong GV/white pepper/spicy lightly floral/carnations some stony/mineral bit complex nose; fairly tart/tangy light stony/mineral fairly strong GV/white pepper/floral/carnations quite attractive flavor; med. some GV/white pepper/floral light stony/mineral finish; seems to have put on a bit of weight since last Fall; reminds me more of a Burgenland GV than Wachau; finish falls off a bit; a very pretty/elegant expression of GV.

  1. Solminer GrunerVeltliner DeLandaVnyd/LosOlivosDist (48 cs; 12.8%) Lompoc 2017: Light yellow color; light fragrant GV/white pepper/carnations/floral light chalky slight green/herbal very pleasant nose; quite tart/tangy/bit metallic rather chalky/stony/perfumed talc light GV/floral/white pepper/carnations bit lean/eviscerated/spare flavor; med.long tart/metallic light GV/white pepper/carnations mostly stony/chalky finish; a pleasant enough GV that is varietally correct but rather on the lean/eviscerated side.

A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. Solminer is the effort of David & Anna DeLaski outside of downtown/metropolitan LosOlivos. With both of them having experience in making wine in Austria, their focus is on making Austrian-themed wines. I generally like their wines, but sometimes wish they offered up just a bit more impact.
