2007 Le Plan Vermeersch Chateauneuf-du-Pape ‘GT’

Non-commercial post: I briefly represented this producer in the U.S.

Still very deep ruby color, almost black. The aromas are heady with black plums, a touch of black cherry and hints of oregano and sage. The palate is rich and ripe. There is some heat, but it’s not obtrusive. There is plenty of sage, a strong, surprising mineral note, some red fruit to go with the black. This is opulent without being overwhelming, showing good balance despite the alcoholic note, which seems to fade rather than strengthen at the finish. This is an outstanding wine that appears to be at its peak. Rated 94. I will drink my remaining bottles over the next year.
