TN: 2004 Chateau Pavie Macquin (St. Emilion)

I am not sure what motivated me to buy this wine on release, as the big, over-the-top style style is not my wheelhouse. Putting that aside, the wine is enjoyable for what it is. It is mature enough to drink without reservation, but I think it is far from declining. My bottle has some sediment that had to settle. There is some chocolate-cherry underneath the char and smoke, but it is a big, rich, dense wine. I do not think the wine would compliment even a big slab of red meat, at least for me, so it probably would be best consumed on its own. I think proponents of the house style would be more than satisfied with the way this wine is showing now. I have another bottle or two and probably will open them within the next three or four years.
