Is it safe to ship in May from CA to NY?

I snagged some of the '08 Comtes from the original Woodland Hills offering, but my wine only now is coming in. They are offering to ship it in a weeks time via ground, from CA to NY “with cold packs”. This is now early May. Phoenix is 100F. I’m assuming the shipping window is firmly lost and it makes sense to hold it now at Woodland Hills till November. But I have a logistical preference to take it now. Curious if perhaps I am overthinking it, and shipping next week would be a-ok.

I am in Connecticut, and think the window is closed, especially for ground.

Overnight or wait, in my opinion.

I would say the window is closed as well unless its next day. I wouldn’t want to risk a ground shipment going across the country.

+1. I wouldn’t ship ground at this point.

I had a shipment teed up for 2 weeks ago but it didn’t go out on time. I’m having them hold it until the fall because of how the weather changed…

Holding off till Fall

Overnight or maybe 2-day if you get a great window or hold.

When I ship in the opposite direction, I only buy when I’m willing to upgrade the shipping, and that’s pretty much true most of the year.

I ordered from Mending Wall a few years ago for a summer wedding and they shipped it ground with cold packs and it was still cool when the wine arrived. Unless you’re planning on cellaring then yeah why not wait until Nov.

[rofl.gif] Is this a trick question?

I can’t believe there is not a nationwide cold-chain shipping service…

the companies that do use one to go from Cali to SC I have never understood. yes, its cold chain. but then it gets dropped off with Fed Ex in FLORIDA of all places, and goes ground from there. seems like terrible planning for a cold chain company to choose THE HOTTEST STATE as their transfer location.

The original offer on this was so reasonable that can you easily rationalize the overnight shipping cost .

Special wine deserves special service. Ship overnight.

Well Florida always takes other states business whether it makes any sense or not.

Gents, go to Eldorado Weather and use their max and min temp maps for up to 6 days in the future.

Right now, you can ship safely via ground from NorCal to anywhere in the northern half of the country.

Sometimes packages from Northern California to NY (or vice versa) end up traveling through Texas or New Mexico. Not sure why, but sometimes they do.

Only 93 degrees today here in Northern California… [snort.gif] I’d wait till it cools off nationally.

Cooling off tomorrow in SF Bay area, back into 70’s
