TN: Two Italian Reds (Nebbiolo&Groppello)...(short/boring)

Tried these two last week:

  1. LePiane Nebbiolo SisquocVnyd/SantaBarbaraCnty (14.2%) AllisonThomson/Lompoc 2013: Med.color w/ slight bricking; fairly pungent/tarry/Nebb strong lilacs/Nebb/floral some smokey/earthy/oak lovely perfumed some complex nose; some tart/tangy fairly rich rather floral/lilacs/violets/Nebb some pungent/tarry/earthy bit smokey/oak fairly complex flavor w/ modest ripe/tangy tannins; very long/lingering light smokey/oak rather rich rather floral/Nebb/lilacs light pungent/tarry/earthy/Nebb some complex finish w/ modest ripe tannins; a really lovely near mature Calif Nebb that should go another 3-6 rs; reminds some of the Castelli SBC Nebb but not quite as perfumed, some of the Palmina Nebbs; a lovely rendition of Calif Nebb.

    5% Marzemino; 12%; Frmtd: Concrete tank) 2018
    : Med.drak color; quite fragrant floral/lilacs somewhat blackberry/plummy/boysenberry rather Mourv-like fairly spicy/dried Italian herbs/Barbera bit Syrah-like/licorice lovely fragrant nose; fairly tart/tangy fairly rich rather structured very strong blackberry/plummy/Mourv-like some spicy/Barbera light pungent/smokey/oak bit earthy/dusty some complex flavor w/ modest grippy tannins; very long/lingering strong plummy/blackberry/Mourv-like bit hard/spicy/Barbera light smokey/oak some complex finish w/ modest hard/chewey tannins; needs another 2-6 yrs to soften tannins; quite an interesting beautiful rather non-Italianate red at a great price. $18.00 (K-L)
