TN: 2013 Bêtes Curieuses Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Château Thébaud

My encounters with aged Muscadet, when I can find it, have all been really good; I wish stuff like this was easier to find. This has 5 years on lees and 3 in the bottle. The wine has a prototypical Muscadet flavor profile with a little more weight and body than most young versions. The nose sits somewhere between a windy rocky beach and a pile of salted lemons. The palate starts out nice and salty with flavors dominated by minerals, the acidity is high, giving the wine focus and linearity. While the body is quite light, there is a creaminess from the lees that fills out the mid palate and prevents the wine from tasting too acidic and too forward like a Cry Baby. The finish shows a bit of fruitiness that was missing from the rest of the experience, mostly lemon, maybe a bit of granny smith apple. The wine is in fantastic shape; I can see it going for another 5+ years no problem. Definitely a food wine though, went perfectly with a nice salty roasted Bronzino.
