TN: Father's Day Chardonnay

FATHER’S DAY CHARDONNAY - DeeCee (6/20/2021)

Decided to open a couple of my nicer chardonnays on deck and drank them alongside a good friend, my wife, and my best frienemy (my 1 year old). The wines were both exceptional and surprising to the upside!

  • 2009 Michel Gonet Champagne Blanc de Blanc - France, Champagne
Gold, fine bead. Really explosive of the nose and palate with a lot of oxidative/autolytic stuff going on here. Rich, nutty, creamy, with a fair amount of spice. Same goes for the palate, with a long and satisfying finish. Lots of ripe golden apple as well.

Seems to be in a nice and expressive drinking window! (93 pts.)

  • 2008 Domaine Servin Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Light gold. Gorgeous all around, with tropical fruit notes floating over some baking spice and cream. Palate is equally intense and persistent. Follows through with pineapple, mango, and then into a lovely mix of very sweet oranges. Long finish follows with salinity and verve and energy.

Followed over two nights and slightly more expressive in the fruit spectrum the second day. (94 pts.)

Thanks for the notes. I’m a big fan of Servin Chablis.
