TN: 2008 Terres Falmet, À Contre Courant, Saint Chinian

Nose: shining dried fruit and leather (often when I say dried fruit and leather I mean old, dusty, musty… not the case here, this is the premier plump and oily dried fruit, and fresh and soft leather).

Palate: cherry liqueur, and an earthy quality; deep deep deep and rich all over the mouth and with a lasting aftertaste.

Imagine an Amarone without any fatiguing heft. You can drink it on its own, you can drink it with food; it is still very fresh and lively, while being massively concentrated.

An absolutely singular wine.

I have been coveting this bottle in our local shop for over 3 years. We had received gifts of their entry level GSM and Carignan, and they were both nice.

The only other wine this reminded me of was a Quintarelli Valpolicella, but more enjoyable and more alive.

My understanding is that this was only ever made in 2008, is some blend of old vines Carignan and Grenache from Languedoc, and sits under a flor for 4 years:

I’m going back to buy the other remaining bottle.
