A high class Furmint (Lenkey Uragya 2011)

Lenkey Uragya Tokaji Furmint 2011 : 17/20
638 bouteilles produites, 12° d’alcool.

It is …

there just isn’t much dry furmint in the US. Fortunate to taste a bunch while in Budapest on holiday and all of them were quite enjoyable.

Domain information :
We harvested in late October and early November. The grapes that we left out for making sweet wine was slowly getting sweeter than usual, moreover starlings has caused significant damage to our yield. We could not wait any longer with the harvest, so this vineyard-selected dry wine has been made from the grapes that we cardinally intended to be sweet wine.

The wine aged 30 months in oak barrels and 4,5 years in bottles, then released in March of 2019.

Produced: 638 bottles

Product in 638 bottles
Acid content 6,1 g/l
Sugar content 1,7 g/l
Alcohol 12 %

I am not familiar either with dry Furmint (and this wine is neither a szamorodni nor an orange wine). I will have another bottle next week-end, hoping the same quality.

Former interesting bottles (100% Furmint) :
10. Szent Tamás : Tokaj « Mad » 2013 (Groupe Fils de Roi)
11. Balassa : Tokaj Mézes-Maly « Villo » 2011 (Groupe Les Prétendants)
14. Szent Tamás : Tokaj « Percze » 2013 (Groupe Fils de Roi)
15. Szent Tamás : Tokaj « Szent Tamás » 2012 (Groupe Fils de Roi)
16. Nobilis : Tokaj « Barakonyi » 2013 (Groupe Les Trois Grâces)
19. Szepsy : Tokaj « Bányász » 2013 (Groupe Le Roi)
20. Szepsy : Tokaj « Hasznos » 2013 (Groupe Le Roi)

My last dry furmint, in june 2021 :
Hetzolo Tokaji Furmint 2018 : 15/20
Thought Roussillon (aromas and acidity for a southern white - grenache ? maccabeu ?).

The Lenkey wines are excellent. Some of my favorite things to surprise unsuspecting wine nerds and pros with!

found one near me and it’s a Lenkey Flow for $19

FLOW 2017 DRY WHITE, HUNGARY FURMINT AND HARSLEVELU FROM TOKAJ-HEGYALJA

Thank you for this confirmation …

I bought it through a hungarian friend of mine. 20 euros.

A wine to know.

Thank you …

Best Furmint to me (dry) is Szepsy. This sounds nice.

Szepzy also elaborates great sweet wines like Szepsy 6 Puttonyos Aszú 1999.

Looks like you can buy the 2008 Tulelo - which, although it’s been a while, I can vouch for tasting excellent as of 1-2 years ago, from the american importer. The 2011 “Human” HÁRSLEVELŰ is also excellent.

EDIT: Looks like it links out to retailers, but still…both these are worth a try. I agree on Szepsy and others making excellent wines, but it’s cool to see a relative unknown producer making such ageworthy, and affordable wines.
