TN: brief impressions on miscellaneous whites

Here are a few impressions on some old world whites from the past couple of months. Trying to do better with writing up TNs…

Pieropan 2018 Soave Classico La Rocca – this exceeded expectations. Surprising richness and body, this bottle was surprisingly versatile with food. Stood up to a variety of hors d’oeuvres. Really good, and not just when graded on a (Soave) curve.

Trimbach 2001 Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile – met expectations although with a slightly different flavor profile than in the past. This bottle was more lemon-y, rather than apple/apricot/honey notes. Still pretty good intensity and full textured. Glad that there are no petrol notes (my personal preference), but maybe starting its decline?

Weingut Knoll 2012 Riesling Smaragd Ried Schütt – below expectations. Shows decline since previous bottle. Now it’s somewhat plodding with a touch of alcoholic heat.

Louis Jadot 2005 Meursault Charmes – oxidized and unpleasant, without and with air. To no one’s surprise, my batting average with Jadot ‘04/’05 has been horrible. We have one bottle left – 2005 Les Perrières. Any chance of it showing properly???

Domaine William Fèvre 2004 Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses – our batting average with Fevre ’04 has been excellent, but this bottle was oxidized and not enjoyable.

Domaine Guy Amiot 2000 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champgains – met expectations. Hurray for showing its age appropriately. Good acidity, good body. Very pleasant.

Thanks for reading,
Peter
