TN: 2016 Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas Renaissance

Deeply pitched, dark and sooty. There are notes of black olive, tar and smoked meats too. Briary fruits are warming and just a tad blocky. There’s good depth, excellent acidity and a long, savoury finish. Perfect with cassoulet.

Nice note. But who eats cassoulet in the summer?

Just teasing, you Antipode! [wink.gif]

Mate, it is as cold as a mother in law’s kiss down here!

Sounds like perfect match. I do like that younger vine Renaissance bottling. Good relative “bargain” in Cornas. The ‘10 is drinking well now.

Jeremy is on a roll!

I recall drinking that 2010 on release - after Alan Rath warned me to stick it away - and thinking damn, this definitely needs 15! Glad to hear it’s starting to show. I have not even tried my 2010 or 09 Clape Cornas bottles.

I’ll pull the Renaissance this weekend.

When I tried the big brother 16 Cornas a couple of years ago, I thought it was one of the best young Clape wines I’ve ever tasted.

…as is the '08.

Isn’t he always though? neener
