A seriously good 2010 Rhys Pinot San Mateo County

As I do with Ceritas, I buy mostly their single vineyard wines. But like the Ceritas Costalina, every time I open the Rhys San Mateo I’m surprised how good it is. This was showing so signs age. Loamy black cherries, a little sappy but crisp.

The San Mateo may very well be my favorite Rhys Pinot.

Interesting. Last vintage that I remember buying was the 2009 and I think that I still have a bottle. If so, I’ll open it soon.

Tonight was the 2010 Rhys Swan Terrace. Just…wow. Stemmy, unclear whether the fruit will hold up long enough for the stemminess to become mere spice. Still, wow. Drink within 3 years.

Can’t tell if you mean “wow” in a positive way or not.

2010 was a tough vintage too but I’ve had similar experiences with 2010s aging well. I think the relatively high acids might have something to do with its freshness. I’ve got a decent amount of 2010 Rhys that is stuck in the back of my cellar. I’ll have to crack one this week.
