TN: Correggia Roche d'Ampsej Roero Nebbiolo '16...(short/boring)

Had this last weekend:

  1. MatteoCorreggia Roche d’Ampsej Riserve DOCG: Roero (14.5%; 6505 btls; EB; GiulianiImprts/Boulder; 100% Nebbiolo; www.MatteoCorreggia.com/en) Canale 2016: Med.color; very fragrant floral/lilacs/violets/Nebb bit pungent/tarry intense Nebb nose; quite tart/tangy/acidic very strong Nebb/floral/lilacs/violets/rose petal some pungent/tarry some earthy/dusty/OV flavor w/ strong hard tannins; very long/lingering intense Nebb/floral/lilacs/violets some tarry/pungent quite dusty/OV finish w/ ample grippy tannins; rather intense Nebb fruit w/ ample tannins; needs 5-10 yrs at least; fairly priced in respect to B/B. $59.00 (AV)

A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. Correggia: One of my very favorite producers in the Roero. This Nebb is much more intense than most from the B/B area. The Ampsej is his flagship Nebb made from 50 yr old vines.

Thanks Tom for the notes, been curious to try their wines. What do you think of their other wines?

Well, Mikael… across the board I’ve pretty much liked their wines. Sometimes a bit pricey, but not outrageously so.

Sampled this over the weekend. It’s as generous and giving as Nebbiolo can be. Varietally true with all the elements it should have. Still plenty of tannic grip. This is best with food due to that structure but with plenty of complexity and pretty dried and fresh fruits.
