TN: An Underwhelming White & Red...(short/boring)

Had these two over the weekend:

  1. Dalia Maris Pignul IGP: Trevenezia Pignolo (14%; GuilianaImprts/Boulder) 2018: Very dark color; very strong blackberry/plummy/very ripe/overripe Recioto-like somewhat alcoholic rather earthy/dusty/rustic nose; soft very ripe/overripe plummy/blackberry/boysenberry quite earthy/dusty/coarse rather hot/alcoholic very Recioto-like flavor w/ ample coarse/rough tannins; long rather hot/alcoholic/overripe strong blackberry/plummy/boysenberry fairly earthy/dusty/coarse/rough finish w/ ample coarse tannins; clearly a Pignolo made as a Recioto wine; not very attractive & too overripe/alcoholic for my tastes; way over-priced at $46.00 (KK)

  1. Guimaro DdO: RibeiraSacra VinoBlanco (12.5%; JosePastorSlctns; 75% Godello/25% Treixadura, Torrontes, Loureiro, Albariño) Adegas Guimaro 2020: Med.gold color; rather earthy/dusty some ripe peaches/appley slight pungent/resiny/skin-contact (?) some stony/mineral/chalky pleasant enough nose; quite tart/tangy/some metallic rather stony/earthy/chalky little fruit bit coarse/rustic flavor; med.long somewhat tart rather tangy/metallic fairly earhy/dusty/stony/granatic little fruit slight appley finish; a pleasant enough rather earthy white w/ very little fruit; a bit on the underwhelming side but pleasant enough. $20.50 (KK)

A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. Pignolo:This is a variety found mostly in the Friuli area. The Pignolos I’ve had from Friuli, by & large, have been quite good red wines. This was made as a dried wine in the style of Recioto or Amarone. Which destroyed any attractive Pignolo character. Even as a Valpolicella Recioto, it was not very attractive.
