David orgnaized anotehr lost Friday gathering. The dishes were exceptional as ususal. The wine service was exceptional!

Champagne
Both were exceptional examples.

  • 1996 Salon Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut - France, Champagne
Perfectly mature yet energetic nose displaying perfectly ripe yellow fruit, baked apple, a hint of orange peel, lemon curd, honey, caramel, white flower, white pepper, burnt sugar and crushed rocks. Excellent concentration, very finely layered ripe yellow fruit, rich yet pure and precise, perfect balance, fine generous mousse, bright acidity, strong mineral and a long perfectly ripe yellow fruit driven finish with honey and crème brulee at the end. This is a beautifully mature example that is drinking well. This is a perfectly mature yet fresh and energetic example. The 96 Salon seems to be entering the maturity. (97 pts.)
  • 2008 Dom Pérignon Champagne - France, Champagne
Extremely fresh example showing perfectly pure white fruit with a hint of yellow, fresh lemon, candied lemon peel, pear, granny smith, sweet spice, rain water, honey and crushed rocks. Incredibly elegant, very finely layered pure white fruit, airy and beautifully detailed, bright acidity, strong limestone mineral and a long perfectly ripe white fruit driven finish with honey and white flower at the end. This is the perfect expression of the 08 DP, i.e. so elegant and pure yet with incredibly energy. (98 pts.)

White Burgundy Flight 1
The Dauvissat-Camus showed incredibly well, a great example of GC Chablis.

  • 2010 Domaine Francois et Antoine Jobard Meursault 1er Cru Les Poruzots - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Expressive nose displaying ripe yellow fruit, golden delicious, peach cobbler, vanilla/oak, honeysuckle, caramel, almond paste, spicy spices and mineral. Very good concentration, nicely layered yellow fruit, rich and dense, medium acidity and mineral, and a medium to long ripe yellow fruit driven finish with crème brulee at the end. This is a solid Meursault 1er crus that clearly expressing the rich and ripe 10 vintage. This is drinking at the peak, no need to wait. (93 pts.)
  • 2010 Dauvissat-Camus Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Perfectly precise textbook Chablis nose displaying pure white fruit, pear, granny smith, lemon curd, lemon, oyster jus, beeswax, saline, white flower and wet stone. There is a hint of wet sox in the beginning that blew off. Perfectly integrated palate, layers upon layers of pure white fruit, good richness yet laser like focus and excellent energy, bright acidity, strong wet stone mineral and a long pure white fruit driven finish with white flower and wet stone at the end. It gets even fresher with air. I typically prefer Raveneau but this is as good as Chablis gets. (97 pts.)

White Burgundy Flight 1
The Ramonet was great.

  • 2008 Etienne Sauzet Montrachet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
As the sommelier pours, the color is concerning. Clearly premoxed. The palate is still beautiful, rich yet weightless. What a shame! NR (flawed)
  • 2008 Domaine Ramonet Bâtard-Montrachet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
I have not had this wine for over ten years and this has developed beautifully. Expressive nose displaying perfectly ripe yellow fruit, peach, apple, orange blossom, light crème, honey, lanolin, sweet spices and mineral. Perfectly integrated palate, layers upon layers of opulent yellow fruit, incredibly rich yet airy and fluid, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a seamless long ripe yellow fruit driven finish with a hint of crème brulee at the end. Absolutely delicious yet noble in very Batard way. A great example of Batard. (97 pts.)
  • 2018 Domaine Heitz-Lochardet Chevalier-Montrachet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
Expressive nose displaying ripe primary yellow and white fruit, yellow peach, pineapple, pear, lemon curd, bubble yum, sap, spicy spice and mineral. Excellent concentration, packed concentrated yellow fruit, rich and dense, bright acidity and strong mineral, and a long ripe yellow fruit driven finish. It is a bit dense and ripe at the moment, perhaps needs a decade of cellaring and hoping for the best. (94 pts.)

Red Burgundy

  • 2004 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Cuvée Vieilles Vignes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru
This is clearly affected by LBT. Sous bois is starting to emerge, also red fruit, licorice, chocolate and earth. Really rich yet fluid palate. The 04 taint is too pronounced. (88 pts.)
  • 2007 Domaine Fourrier Griotte-Chambertin Vieille Vigne - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru
Hedonistic nose displaying ample delicious red and black fruit, blackberry, raspberry jam, cherry, a hint of licorice, rose, grilled cep, baking spices and earth. Excellent concentration, layers upon layers of delicious red and black fruit, rich and opulent yet fluid and beautifully balanced, perfect amount of acidity and earthy mineral, and a seamless long concentrated red and black fruit driven finish. Although youthful, this is so darn expressive, drinking beautifully. (97 pts.)
  • 2009 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grands-Echezeaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
Youthful yet complex nose displaying concentrated opulent red fruit with a hint of black, cherry, cherry pie, strawberry and rhubarb tart, rose. Vosne spice, Chinese herbal medicine, nutmeg, oolong tea, raw cep and earth. The DRC stem is very pronounced. Exceptional concentration, layers upon layers of perfectly ripe opulent red fruit, rich yet polished and beautifully detailed, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a seamless long concentrated red fruit driven finish with stem and rose at the end. Although youthful, this is quite complex. Absolutely beautiful showing. (97 pts.)
  • 1990 Jean-Jacques Confuron Romanée St. Vivant - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
Correct but murky color, not sure what happened as it was clearly in the bottle. Rich but subdued fruit expression, sweet black fruit, ash, iron and earth. Excellent concentration, packed concentrated black fruit, incredibly rich and opulent, medium acidity, strong mineral, and a long ripe black fruit driven finish with iron at the end. The nose is not terribly expressive. (93 pts.)

Leflaive

  • 2016 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Expressive nose displaying rich yellow and white fruit, lemon curd, granny smith, apple candy, a hint of flint, sweet spices and limestone. Excellent concentration, nicely layered generous white and yellow fruit, excellent balance and precision, bright acidity and mineral, and a seamless long perfectly ripe yellow and white fruit driven finish with a hint of flint at the end. Although young, this is really delicious. (94 pts.)

I’d like to get lost there in Washington . Nice tasting as usual Kevin .

Thanks very much Kevin. Great, informative notes. As always.

Wonderful notes as always Kevin. I am fully in agreement on the '04 Vogue Musigny. Every bottle expresses the same. Quite a shame.

Lovely. That lobster dish had me salivating.
