TN: 2006 Bernard Baudry Le Clos Guillot, Chinon, France

2006 Bernard Baudry Le Clos Guillot, Chinon, France
Loamy earth, underbrush, subtle mace and muddled plums…perhaps the faintest trace of barnyard to add interest. The attack builds quickly with a fairly even complement of primary, secondary and tertiary elements. There’s fruit and dried herbs and leather that defy parsing and detailed identification. Enjoyable almost balsamic acidity…which usually creates length except the flavor elements are determined to smack the palate all at once. There’s a surge, sappy tingle and fairly quick dissipation. What did I just taste? The tannins knead and softly numb the tongue. I’m doubtful this will improve with more time. This is missing the elegance and complexity of the 2010 Grezeaux…but plenty good for a weekend pairing for grilled chicken.
