Zilliken and Stony Hill

For Thanksgiving had:

2014 Zilliken Saarburger Rausch Riesling Kabinett - extremely young wine. I would not have believed the wine was 7 years old if I had not seen it on the label. Still tons of bright fruit with good acidity, but this hasn’t really developed more complex flavors yet. Guess I will be holding my remaining bottles for a while, but happy to do so as the wine seems to have a lot of potential.

Really enjoyed a 2007 Stony Hill Red Table. As I understand it, this was one of Stony Hill’s first Cabernet (or its first Cabernet). It was labeled red table wine for a couple of vintages and later called Cabernet Sauvignon. Was a kind of old-fashioned California Cabernet that was elegant rather than over the top big and oaky. Still young and would gain from more age. This is the type of wine I wish was made more in California these days. Loved it.
