PasoRoblesPress: Amphora Vinification in Paso

Interesting article by MiraHoneycutt on the embracing of Amphora vinifications in Paso:
Paso Winemakers Embrace the Art of Amphora-vinification • Paso Robles Press.

In the article, we find that amphora ferments allows the wine to display its terroir better than ferments in other vessels.
Hmmmm…that sounds like a refrain I’ve heard before somewhere!!

These amphora are apparently Italian-made. Elisabetta Foradori uses clay vessels from Jose Padilla, a Spanish guy that many regard
as the Stradivarius of clay vessels. I don’t know of any of them in use in Calif, though.

I think the only one of these amphora wines from Paso that I’ve tried has been a Giornata Falanghina. Brought it to taste with the crew after a day’s work at Harrington Wines a few years ago and everyone was impressed. But then I’ve been impressed with nearly everything that Brian & Stephy Terrizzi have made at Giornata. One of California’s great under-the-radar producers.
