Have a bunch still to arrive but weather has been so unstable, I don't expect BD wines to arrive this soon and appreciate the ones who track weather carefully and check with me.

I've always received all my BD wine in good time.

Yesterday was a beautiful day in the Willamette Valley, so we trekked out to see Dustin at Kelley Fox for a pickup and tasting. The 19s were tasting great and we sampled a few others including the 20 Blanc and 21 Nerthus. Star of Bethlemhem was the highlight foe me, buy the Mirabai was also tasting nicely. Gorgeous weather and our first formal tasting since the pandemic, just great to get back out. Also tasted at Elk Cove, but the highlight was hanging with Dustin and the wonderful Kelley Fox wines.

I still didn't receive my bottles from Ansonia. The trackorderonline tells me it's in the city but it's been here since Feb 28. I can't contact neither the shipper nor Ansonia as they are not replying to my emails nor picking up phone/responding voicemail. Any idea how to check up on this status?

I am really gun shy — tried to squeeze one in to Boston a few weeks ago and two of the bottles from the case had been frozen (see pushed corks)!! (Will replace as soon as possible.) This is my second one… I think truckers are stopping overnight in random spots due to labor shortages?

This is one of the sites we use - we also get a daily weather report from a service. The map I posted is from the weather.gov site. Access the site and select forecast then graphical. You can adjust parameters using boxes at the top. For summer it is great for monitoring maximum temps and in winter for mins. Also a general guide on what weather the wine will encounter along a route. It gives you a 5-day window.

Hey Rick. Great question. I asked folks to report back and the frozen/thawed wines taste flat. I would expect the main effects are oxidation and damage to colloidal aggregates. I.e., élevage/aging is all about enhancing smoothness and mouthfeel by allowing the right conditions and time for flavor compounds, proteins, tannins and other phenols to aggregate— which is what gives us a softer, fuller, and sometimes silky mouthfeel— and the impression of “complexity” or “soulfulness” in great wines. Extreme transport conditions (e.g., container ship across the Atlantic) and bottle shock can disrupt this as well, usually temporarily, but there may be no return from freezing!

The pushed/compromised corks are by far the biggest problem (and a real problem especially if pushed that far). Lots of threads on this over the years.

Nolados, olive oil, paella kit, and a variety of seafood.
We dug into the Caballa last night and it was fantastic! I had ordered thinking these would be great for a deck party, but, it is evident that we'll have to reorder before then.

Goodfellow safely in the nest. This is the one I was stressing the most about, because I'm so excited about the older Matello bottles. Arrived nice and cold with no delays between the cold chain hand-off to FedEx and delivery at my house. (Only hiccup was FedEx texted me to say it was arriving yesterday even though the tracking always said today.)

I'm pretty sure it's one of my BD purchases that's spent the last 2 weeks in IL due to a "train derailment" according to UPS. 6 bottles shipped from a third party, they couldn't tell me what might have been in it. It was shipped by Buffalo shipping in Napa? Who knows if I'll ever get it.

I liked that wine, expressed the producer, vintage, and generally the vineyards although it's a blend.

Of the 9 producers I purchased from, I have received shipments from 7, with Veleta arriving yesterday. Briceland has updated with their shipping intentions, so the only one I'm waiting for now is Ladd Cellars. I think they shipped in April last year so not too worried.

It was shipped by Buffalo shipping in Napa? Who knows if I'll ever get it.
Now I get notice from UPS that the box is lost. Guess I have to start making some calls and try to track down who sent it...

Down to only 1 left to ship now. I only ordered 18 bottles and some coffee, so almost there. The coffee was fast (and good, still have a little left for the French Press), Last Bottle arrived a little while ago, HLR Merlot came in today, so just the Scherrer Zins left.

I don't have the room right now anyway, so I consider the extra time a gift at the moment
