- 2020 Briceland Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Humboldt County - USA, California, North Coast, Humboldt County (3/7/2022)
I took this to a dinner and the host said "I hate grapefruit in my Sauvignon Blanc". Okay then... Let's open this bottle and find out what's under the cork.
This is definitely not a New Zealand style. It reminds me more of a few high quality Napa SB I've tried over the years. Fruit is apple and pear with a significant spice layer, not Christmas spice, but clove and rosemary type herbs. Medium plus weight. Very nice.

Changed the topic for all things Briceland so I can drop other tasting notes in here.

Whoa - incredible Pinot. Running under 13% ABV on the label has me intrigued. Hint of crushed moss and tart red fruit aromas. The palate is tart cranberry and sour raspberry. Beautiful. I suspect, as great as this wine is, there's upside with some cellar time.

Me too, Greg. I think I had Briceland Pinot years ago. Same vineyard as Cabot maybe?Greg Mitrakas wrote: ↑March 10th, 2022, 7:23 pm Thank you for the posts. Sounds like they are 2 for 2 for your box! But I've been meaning to get his stuff for awhile and BD is nuts for me and just slipped through the cracks. Not this year and I did the 12 bottle sampler and a couple of extras.
Briceland is everything I'm into so I look forward to your observations as well. I'll get a bottle opened every week, hopefully.

Had the Noir d’Orleans yesterday. Everything you’d want from an easy drinking claret.

- 2020 Briceland Vineyards Rosé Pét Nat d'Orleans Ishi Pishi Ranch - USA, California, North Coast, Humboldt County (3/14/2022)
This is made in the style before Methode Champanois. Very rustic. Andrew told me to put this in the freeze for a bit before opening because it'll bubble up. So I did. It's bottled with a cap so I took it outside to open for fear of the blow back. Opened it and barely a spritz... Huh. Back into the house. Oh wait here it comes like a boiling pot of water. Get me a glass ASAP! LOL
Wine looks like fresh squeezed guava juice, pinkish and loads of chunks of grape goodness. That could be decanted off but why? Rustic is the perfect description.
Strong pink grapefruit flavors and very light effervescence. It's like a mimosa in a bottle. Paired with a cheese and fruit platter was perfect. Very enjoyable and bonus points for the entertainment value.

Firstly, I'm glad you liked the wine in its rustic, cloudy condition.brigcampbell wrote: ↑March 14th, 2022, 9:06 amPosted from CellarTracker

Secondly, I think I need to put out a video on how I open this one...
I put it in the freezer from the fridge for 20-30 min.
Open and decant PROMPTLY, leaving behind the gross lees and perhaps 1/2 an inch of wine.
In addition to the wine being clearer, the advantage of this is that the wine keeps more of the bubbles.
Once it gets stirred, the bubbles nucleate with the sediment and it releases most of the CO2 right away.
Either way, it is a fun and tasty wine.

For those of you who are patiently waiting for your order, a stack went out today. The rest will sadly have to wait until the beginning of the April. My nephew is getting married in Buffalo.

Spectacular. Acid, lemon, lime and superior mouthfeel.

- 2016 Briceland Vineyards Chardonnay Ronda's reserve - USA, California, North Coast, Humboldt County (6/14/2022)
Dead ringer for Coteaux Champenois.
Medium gold color. When I first tasted this I mainly thought this was a grower champagne with zero dosage minus the bubbles. I was trying to figure out if the color was from oak but I wasn't getting those specific markers and then I thought to myself it's almost like it spent time on the lees. Bingo, back of the label says extended time on the lees. Nice creamy texture.
Fantastic wine.

2016 Briceland Syrah, Ishi Pishi Ranch
For Father's Day this 10 lb brisket (pre-trimmed weight) spent 7 hours on the smoker.

As I scrolled through Cellar Tracker trying to decide what wine to pair with it, I could find nothing that I thought would go better with it than a Briceland Syrah.
The wine is a dark purple, with dark fruit, just a hint of funk and that hint of Humboldt soil that I find so charming and appealing in Andrew's wines.

I really like all the previous tasting notes written up on this one, they give a very complete picture of this wine.
I also get a restrained red fruit and Cherry note. Tenants have a little structure and there's a herbaceousness. Great pairing with the ribs. Happy Birthday Kim.
