2011 Keller „Abtserde“ GG
Truely fascinating how KP managed it to make such an outstanding ABTSERDE in a so-called „weaker“ vintage. Fair to say since 2001 we have no real bad vintage anymore in Germany thanks to climate change. In the 70s and 80s we had sometimes a lot of rain during harvest in september/october, but these times are gone. Indian summer during harvest every year.
Okay, okay, 2003&2006 are not highly regarded. On the other hand the German winemakers would handle the hot vintage 2003 differently now, as they learned a lot in the last years to handle hot vintages, for example in form of leaf management.
This 2011 Abtserde has a phenomenal palate prescence, full of energy, grip and overall such electrifying & vibrating. No wonder that the bishop of Worms wanted his wines ONLY from Abtserde in the middle ages. Surprisingly even a touch better than 2011 Morstein GG with its classic dirty minerality.
