TN: 2017 Montevertine - Montevertine (Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT)

2017 Azienda Agricola Montevertine Toscana IGT - Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT (4/14/2022)
– decanted approx. 45 min. before initial taste –
– tasted non-blind over 2 to 3 hours –

NOSE: high-toned aromatics with dark cherry and cherry pit leading the way, supported by notes of potting soil and freshly crushed green weeds. After having been open for a couple of hours, a complex melange of saffron/oud/rose/motor oil emerged. Complex, beguiling, and reserved.

BODY: violet-garnet color of medium-deep to deep depth; no sediment; medium-light to medium bodied.

TASTE: quite tannic/drying; cherry pit; hint of leather (not bretty); savory; Ajwain seed; medium to medium+ acidity; alc. not noticeable (labelled at 13.5%); red currant; paired well with cheesy risotto, but paired poorly with steak; drinks light/easy — so, perhaps tight/closed, or moving in that direction, right now; very moreish, but also incomplete — wait at least 5 more years. Excellent.

50, 5, 13, 17, 8 = (93 pts.)
