Champagne Supply Chain Problems?

I made the decision to by all of my Champagne locally about 5 years ago. Until about 2 years ago, just about anything in which I was interested was available. That’s not the case any longer. Many major brands have disappeared, some across the entire price spectrum. The only Roederer that I’ve seen is the 2012 Starck and that at only 1 retailer. The 2012 Dom Perignon has completely sold through at most locations and is not being restocked. Some NV Ruinart hit the shelf a few days ago, a wine that used to be $55-$60, and is priced at $89.99. Is my local situation unique or any of you experiencing similar situations where you live? Thanks.

Well I’ve seen articles (sorry I can’t reference or link since I can’t remember where exactly) that Champagne sales have just taken off in a big way. Which is a good thing as a reward to the many producers that have improved their game, but bad for us who want the good stuff as readily available and at as low cost as reasonable. Cheers.
