A Brace of Young Mid-Week Burgundy: Niellon, Felettig, MColin, Moreau, Magnien...

Just a collection of some youngish school night Burgundies from the past week. Felettig for the WIN [cheers.gif]

  • 2018 Domaine Michel Niellon Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champs-Gain - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru (7/20/2022)
Steve brought this. Love Niellon. A success for '18, but a step down from its usual brilliance. Of the whites, more clearly showing that more time is warranted. Still…a bit incomplete today in some way and no favor to this one that a recent '16 was awesome.
  • 2018 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly Blanc - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru (7/20/2022)
Usually reliable Moreau, but this was just not all there, and not unlike the 18s lately. A tad hollow in the middle, and not very interesting. Reticent nose. Could be from anywhere. Kind of flabby. Lower acid. eh.
  • 2018 Marc Colin et Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Le Charmois Blanc - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru (7/17/2022)
Shows some brisk acidity, dominated by lemon/lime wiry energy. A bit austere at the moment. Peach, citrus, lemon drop are here. Clean and without pretense, but a bit one-note at the moment. These 18s are lacking something in the middle
  • 2016 Moreau-Naudet & Fils Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru (7/18/2022)
MN is one of the Old reliables for me. Tropical fruit. Brisk. Still fairly primary/youthful.
  • 2017 Domaine Felettig Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Gruenchers - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru (7/20/2022)
Open and already giving so much. Floral, roses, citrus notes notes on the nose. Silky and juicy, without being ponderous. Very Chambolle. Very delicious. More please…But at turn-back-the-clock pricing.
  • 2020 Henri Magnien Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru (7/20/2022)
Bigger. Next to the Felettig it clearly screams Gevrey. Irony. Primary. There’s some wood here, too. Bigger bones. Needs some time.
