These haven’t really stopped in months.
Just yesterday I was cycling in Bouillac just across the river. About 5km away from the centre of the city and the village hall was ablaze, smoke was over the centre as I rode home.
The Gironde has been one of the hottest places in Europe for most of the summer.

I cycled the route above this morning, probably passing 100 estates in total, the majority of which are not grand (only a few on the final part).
The visual differences in vines was astonishing, the worst looking were almost all around 1/3 to 1/2 covered in red leaves, and tiny bunches.
`Big differences in canopy management, those with high trellising on the whole seemed in much better shape.
But from Creon down to past Cadillac there was a strong smell of smoke and noticeably lower visibility.
It will be an interesting vintage - whites start next week.
