I was pondering this today. I’m sure it’s a good wine – I like Albarino and I like Bedrock.
To those who have had this in the past, how would you say this compares to better Albarino which are generally available from Spain, for example, Pazo Senorans (which usually sells for around $17 or so)? Better, similar, different?
Grown on limestone (one of the rare outcroppings in Napa/American Canyon) it is generally more structured then Pazo and others at that price point.
Just guessing here; I think the Abrente will live longer.
Both are excellent wines.
Best, Jim
Thinking to myself “did I drink both those wines…”
2009 Abrente Albariño Stuart Ranch- USA, California, Napa Valley, Carneros (11/5/2010)
Very light color, nearly clear. Powerful nose of pear, green apple, honeysuckle. there is a nut aroma too. Beautiful. palate of pear and strong apple. High acidity and medium body with nice coating texture. Crisp and well balanced with good complexity. Excellent wine. (90 pts.)
2006 Pazo de Señorans Albariño Rías Baixas- Spain, Galicia, Rías Baixas (1/8/2010)
It’s 82 degrees here and the country is frozen in the middle of winter whiteout. We’re cooking king crab legs and chasing it with Albarino. Life is good in Socal. Golden rod color in the glass with light citrus nose. The palate is acidity, green apple, and pear. Great wine. (90 pts.)
2007 Val do Sosego Albariño Rías Baixas- Spain, Galicia, Rías Baixas (3/13/2009)
Straw hue with a medium/light intensity. Pear nose, hints of grass and a tad bit of oak/toast finish. Better chilled, flattened out as it warmed up. Paired with shimp and king crab legs, perfect.
I’m interested, but not willing to take the plunge on 6 bottles to get the reduced shipping. I only want a couple bottles, and the shipping on that is a bit much. Too bad these can’t be combined with the existing Bedrock order.
I am on the fence on this one. It is a bit pricey for my everyday white at $22.50(assuming I buy 6). I don’t buy the >$20 Spanish versions for the same reason. I bet its good though. Anyone near Cleveland want to split 6 let me know.
I ordered four bottles and the shipping cost was quite high (I indicated ground shipping.) I do like Albarino and have limited Spanish selections locally.
How much was shipping? I believe Bedrock offers a flat rate for 6 bottles or more, Maybe compare the cost of 6 bottles flat-rate vs. what you paid for 4 + shipping. You may find you’re getting a free bottle or 2 with the half case.
