TN: 2005 Sordo Barolo DOCG

This was a sample opened yesterday. Nice dark ruby color. Fresh aromas of red fruits, licorice, and a little VA. Nice typical Nebbiolo profile on the palate, ripe cherries with tart notes, a little wood, a little licorice, and a wee bit of tannin on the finish.

I’m not at all familiar with this producer, officially “Sordo Giovanni, Castiglione Falletto.” This is a great little bottle of QPR Nebbiolo for about $21, with the added plus that it actually says “Barolo” on the label! Drink now or over the next year or two.

Wow, a Barolo for around 20 bucks that is actually decent??

Might have to seek out a few.

Todd,

Yes, it was quite a surprise to me as well, especially once I saw the price! As I said, this is no blockbuster wine by any means, but finding a decent bottle of Nebbiolo for $20 from any DOCG these days is nearly impossible.
