TN: 2008 Rhys Pinot Noir Family Farm Vineyard

  • 2008 Rhys Pinot Noir Family Farm Vineyard - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, San Mateo County (7/28/2012)
Family farm is always good, but never quite gets to the heights the Skyline or Alpine Vineyards can get to. Cherry fruit and spice on the palate and a hint of crushed rock and earthiness. Seemed a little tired that night, although I don’t think it was in decline…just in a slightly unexciting stage of its life cycle. Good, but not great.

This was my experience with the 2009, too.

I had an '04 Family Farm earlier this year that may have been more impressive than any Rhys yet. It was blind, and on reveal is was shocking to see a new world wine. The kind of experience that makes me very happy to be holding many of the younger pinots…

And maybe the 2009 was just too young. As I do have another bottle, I shall give it some time!

Jim, what is it 08 or 09, Thanks, Joe

If I have this right, I had the '04, Steffen had the '08 and Jim had the '09.

Yep, mine was the 2009.
