This is a question about buying wine (retail) along the I-80 corridor between Davis, CA and downtown SF, CA. Can anyone recommend good wineshops between those two points? I am looking for a place with salespeople more knowledgeable than I (not a high bar) and with more variety than my local supermarket and Costco (also not a high bar). Parking would be a plus. I am aware of Kermit Lynch in Berkeley, and I just discovered online that there is another outpost near the Giants ballpark. And I’m aware of the wineshop in the Ferry Building. And apparently there is a BevMo in Vacaville, and a Total Wine in Pleasant Hill. None of which I have ever stepped foot in! Have I missed anything?
I am also looking for recommendations on online wine shopping. I have never once done that. Is wine.com good? Kermit Lynch?
Jackson’s Wines & Spirits - has an excellent array of wines from both new & old world. Not sure if they are still doing tastings now. http://www.jacksonswines.com/
Vintage Berkeley - also runs Solano Cellar. Has 2 locations in Berkeley, but the closest one off HWY 24 is on College Ave. https://www.vintageberkeley.com/. It’s primarily street parking, but west of Russell St (a block up) is a parking lot.
For online, try https://yahyn.com/ - They have online sommeliers who can help and have this Y score analysis powered by Tastry to discover the wines you will love.
Seems like a bit of a ‘spam’ plug - they are looking for someone in a specific geographic range, NOT something like you are suggesting. What is your association with them?
My apologies if I sounded like I am favoring them. I just find it cool that they are using https://tastry.com/ for their palate survey as this is where we sent the taint samples a few months back.
www.klwines.com just opened up to walk-in business. It’s one of the first exits after you get off the Bay Bridge:
K&L Wine Merchants

Sean, when did K&L reopen? The website says it is still closed. I am a long-time supporter of K&L, and look forward to going back to the SF Store! By the way, you should disclose that you work for K&L/are ITB when you post here. Cheers!
