Trailaghi Grappa di Moscato d'Asti

A while since I’ve had a grappa, but fancies a small glass tonight, so opened what is little more than a miniature of Trailaghi (Rossi d’Angera) Grappa di Moscato d’Asti. The sweet fruit of the grape really shines through on the nose of this unoaked grappa - I am a fan of varietal grappa made from distinctive sweet grapes. Good complexity of the nose ranging from yellow fruits to mint, all without obscuring that singular grappa aroma.

The palate certainly has that pure white alcohol impact, with just about enough flavour to weather the initial blast, however as the alcoholic burn dies away, there is a light but very persistent and balanced finish with good complexity including some quite fleeting flavours. Really enjoying slowly sipping this - not something I’d enjoy to drink quickly, but a pleasure taken at the pace of a chiocciola.

… and a nice chance to break out the Spiegelau grappa glasses I bought a few years ago for very little money.
