Question for Scotch Drinkers

I don’t drink the stuff, but I keep some decent Scotches around for my friends and family. Question: do you store your Scotch in your wine cellar, or does it not matter that the stuff is stored in a place like my kitchen (plenty of temp fluctuations throughout the day, many days over 74 degrees, etc.)?

Kitchen is fine in terms of aging, IMO. Wine cellar, though, is nice for serving temperature if you have the space.

Not sure why but I tend to prefer cabinet in dining room, avoids the highs in the kitchen. Probably overthinking it!

I wouldn’t worry about it unless you are holding some old sealed bottles and are concerned about temperature fluctuations and changes in humidity affecting closures. For stock that’s open and there to drink, you’ll be totally fine for a few years or how ever long it takes to finish the bottle. The spirit will change as its exposed to air after opening and as it sits, but neither air nor temperature fluctuation kill scotch the way they can kill wine.
