Upcoming chartreuse shortage?

Saw on IG from Josh Raynolds that they are moving facilities for making the green chartreuse and production is currently stopped. Can’t seem to find any news of this via Google, anyone know more?

I wonder whether production ceased, resulting in shortages in 2017, when the Chartreuse distillery moved from Voiron to Aiguenoire?

As the liqueur is aged for years prior to bottling, availability theoretically would be scaled-back and stretched out, offering a sustainable volume to the market until production was back at full capacity.

Per the website:

“Reopening of the tourist site in summer 2022!”

It appears that only the museum is being renovated, as no mention is made of the distillery. The boutique shop in Voiron has remained opened for purchases by the public.

Seems that way. I recently had a helluva time finding some. There wasn’t a single bottle to be had at any Total Wine stores in the Bay Area that were a reasonable drive from home. While shopping for other items, I spotted a couple of bottles at a local high-end supermarket. Can’t make a Last Word without it!

More importantly, there’s been a huge Aperol shortage for weeks in LA area. It’s a real problem. [wow.gif]

There is and has been a shortage.

I’ve had really good luck getting it at Swirl on Castro. They’ve historically had both VDPs and the normal. Looks like they only have the normal now. I don’t know where the prices are compared to other places but guess it doesn’t really matter if you can’t find it.

I got my bottle at Draeger’s in San Mateo.

My wife found two bottles in Helena, Montana a couple weeks ago.

As a former Whitefish resident, that’s because she was only competing with 3 other people who know what Chartreuse is

Shelves are groaning under the weight still in Columbus:

Shelves are groaning under those prices! Ouch. $47 here in NJ. That said, your football is much more enjoyable than anything here and a few extra bucks for Chartreuse is a small price to pay for that privilege. O-H!

State controlled prices. The only good thing is the bottle lottery for rare things:

Chartreuse is hit or miss here in NJ. Some stores have nada and they say it’s been that way for a while with no end in sight. Other stores have plenty. I bought two bottles of each of yellow and green and should be good to go for a while.

Back in stock at K & L

Do people notice a large difference between the normal blend and the VEP? Also I found a bottle of the Elixir Vegetal and am eager to give it a try.

IF (and it’s a big IF) the KGBO web site is to be believed there are just 7 bottles of Green and 0 of Yellow in the entire province. The really weird thing is I’m fairly sure I saw a bunch of both on a shelf in a local Toronto store a couple of weeks ago when I was looking for something else.

Picked these up the other day. Bottle from the late 90’s and special edition bottles from the Santa Tecla festival.

Has anybody heard of these Santa Tecla bottles? I read a couple of places without definitive answers that there were ~1000 & 300 (yellow) bottles made for the festival. The festival poster is apparently the back label, but I’ve read nothing that the liquor is special? They have done this bottling for at least 20 years as far as I can see.

That said the yellow is 43% and here in the states it’s 40%. Not sure what the regular yellow bottling is in Europe though.

Having a Last Word. So tasty.
