Which do you prefer?

Tonic all the way.

With what?

I would no more have gin and soda than I would rum and tonic.

For whatever. I should have included an “It Depends” option, but oh well. As it is, doesn’t look like it’s been a very popular poll anyways. pileon hitsfan

I voted tonic because I am more likely to have a G&T than another drink involving soda. Then again, I drink martinis and infrequently go with a mixed drink so the answer to this question does not have every-day ramifications for me.

I am shocked at these results! I use soda far more. I would rather sweeten on my own. I had high hopes for higher order tonics but have been unimpressed so far. OTOH I tried the fever tree bitter lemon this week with Gin and was quite happy, and that is more tonic than soda really.

I agree, Michael. I’m the other soda vote. Tonic too often tastes like 7-Up to me — if I wanted 7-Up, I’d order 7-Up.

Pop. Flawed poll.

I don’t think soda/sodapop/coke plays any part in this discussion, though I think its acceptable for Rum occasionally, particularly something with a lot of vanilla to it (like Appleton white). People don’t actually call soda water pop do they? I would think that would be reserved for soft drinks.

I typically add Perrier or some other sparkling mineral water with a lot of fizz. Then I’ll add simple syrup, agave, or muddle some superfine bar sugar into some fruit if I’m looking for sweeter. I am considering one of those penguin deals though, anyone have any thoughts.

Soda by a mile. Not a fan of quinine.

+1

Tonic by a mile…soda does nothing for me.

I don’t get this at all. You guys that prefer soda by a mile are drinking gin and sodas? Of if you prefer tonic, you’re drinking scotch and tonics? Do you add lime to that? This seems like asking if you prefer a hammer or a screwdriver.

I

I drink vodka sodas rather than vodka tonics. I hate gin, so wouldn’t drink gin and {anything}. I drink my Scotch neat or with a few drops of water. The only drink where this decision comes into play is with vodka.

I get where you’re coming from, Joe. The poll is merely a conversation starter rather than the conversation itself.

Vodka, Soda and Lemon

Gin, Tonic and Lime

Tonic, I need the quinine for my leg cramps.
I drink soda water plain, never as a mixer.

For me that is easy, I don’t drink scotch.

Gin and vodka are good with tonic, bourbon is straight, or rocks, or a splash of water. I don’t put soda with anything.

And to answer your other question…screwdriver. neener

In Boston, tonic IS soda. Pop is a paternal figure.

In Boston, I’ve had to remind far too many bartenders that their quinine water’s run out.

Club Soda. Can enjoy alone on the rocks, or with alot of booze.
