Shipping/Moving a Wine Cabinet

Not sure if this is the right forum to post… but I’m looking for ideas on how to move a 300+ lb wine cellar 100 miles-ish to my new place. Movers in CA charge a “Double Drive Time” fee (where all the drive time counts a double pay), so I’m trying to find an alternative.

Do you guys think a Uhaul will do the trick, even though they do not have liftgates?

P.S. if anyone is selling a wine cabinet 300+ capacity in Los Angeles, please dont hesitate to reach out.

Thanks!

Not sure why U-haul or similar wouldn’t be fine for a 300lb cellar? I’d use it to move the wine at the same time too, if its a one & done drive. 300 bottles is 25 boxes, so maybe a somewhat sore back the next day, but otherwise easy.

You just need a few moving straps (to lift the cellar) & tie downs for the drive, along with a few strong folks on each end to load/unload.
Depending on what wines you have, I’d go with either a really expensive white glove specialty mover, or do it all myself when it comes to wine & wine cellar. Not disparaging movers, but certain items require a more considerate touch, so do it yourself or pay top $ for a specialist.

Yes. Done it with the help of a heavy duty 2 wheel dolly.

Thank you both for your replies! Makes me feel more confident in doing it myself.

Just hire a couple of strong guys. Taskrabbit is great for this.

So I realized that the cellar is too tall and unfortunately won’t fit through my door, so time to find an alternative! Thanks again to everyone!
