Best Online Winemaking Course

Can anyone recommend an “Online Winemaking Course” for someone looking to try at-home winemaking for the first time? Something that covers off on all the basics, but isn’t overly complicated? Alternatively, books that can offer the same would be extremely helpful. Thank you.

Just buy one of these and be done with it.

There’s a lot of good information here: https://www.winepress.us/forums/index.php. Sign up and the posts are searchable.

Lum Eisenman wrote one of the best books on home winemaking. It’s available for free here: http://www.valleyvintner.com/NewWeb/HomeWineMakersManual.pdf

There are some good commercial books out there as well.

There are plenty of apps to help you with math, additions etc.

It’s a very hands on thing. See if there are any local winemaking groups that you can join. People tend to be very helpful.

Best of luck!

Paul - thank you so much. These resources and your thoughts are a huge help. Much appreciated!

I wouldn’t spend money on anything that covers just the basics. The basics aren’t that hard and the real isssues come from what’s not discussed in basic books. One book that has the basics but covers more and I still do use as a reference is by Pambianchi. Not sure if the exact title but something like techniques for home winemaking.

Also, when I first started I found a good amount of free information on the web. Even had a full basic guide for winemaking. They may still be out there. Also I think one of the supply stores (more wine?) may have had a basics guide on its web site.

Good luck. It’s not really that hard if you have good fruit but a lot of things can go wrong. If you don’t have good clean fruit then it gets exponentially harder to make something decent.

WTF???

It was launched on April 1st a couple years ago and went viral. Their idea was actually philantrophic as they are the spearheads of a campaign to bring clean drinking water to all. Read about it here —> https://themiraclemachine.net

The Pambianchi book is called “Techniques in Home Winemaking”. I also recommend “Home Winemaking Step by Step” by Jon Iverson.
