WA = Wine Advocate

IWC = International Wine Cellar
FTLOP = For the Love of Port

Great idea for a thread, Scott!

WS can also be Wine Searcher or World Series (in Asylum).

There’s a bunch of ones used for wine names, esp. Burgundy.

LT = La Tache (In Asylum: Lawrence Taylor for old folks, LaDainian Tomlinson for young folks).
BdM = Bonneau du Martray in Burgundy, Brunello di Montalcino in Italy.
CC = Commerce Corner on the forum, but Corton Charlemagne in Burgundy.
DRC = Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (In Asylum, could be Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie).

SVD = Single Vineyard Designate (a wine labeled with the name of the vineyard. In the US, 95% of the wine must come from the named vineyard.) (In Asylum: you don’t want to know. [wink.gif]) (In Math and Signal Processing: Singular Value Decomposition.)

SQN = Sine Qua Non Winery
SGN = Sélection de Grains Nobles (“selection of noble berries”, wines made from grapes affected by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea). Sweet dessert wines like Sauternes.)

I thought that was “Why the Face?” – or “went to France”…

Don’t forget “FL” → French Laundry especially in EE → Epicurean Exploits

Also EMP → Eleven Madison Park

There are also other restaurants that avid diners abbreviate confusingly but I can’t remember now.

In that vein: GS = Delusional and poor misunderstanding of Branding

What the f___?

But GTS = George Thomas Seaver, winemaker and owner of GTS Vineyards and Seaver Family Vineyards and Mets HoF pitcher!

HoF = Hall of Fame (only in Asylum until recent thread on Parker on the Vintner’s HoF).

NSFW = NOT SAFE FOR WORK!!!

Remember that before clicking and then complaining about what showed up on your screen.

Communes :

GC = Gevrey-Chambertin (sometimes Grand Cru)
CM = Chambolle-Musigny (less often Chevalier-Montrachet)
MSD = Morey-St-Denis
VR = Vosne-Romanee
PM = Puligny-Montrachet

I know! Why don’t we all just write things out! I mean, OMG? WTF?

WDWAJWTO!

TIA = Thanks In Advance.
