Rancho Mirage/Palm Springs - Places to Eat

Hello All,

I am looking for some nice recommendations for places to eat in the Rancho Mirage/Palm Springs area. Any type of recommendation is appreciated. I will be there for a few days and am up for trying some palate pleasing places. Thank you

Cuistot. have had nice French meals there. Good corkage.

Alan,

Thanks for the feedback. I checked out there website and it looked very cool, but they will be on summer break when I will be there. Looks like I will have to make another trip back and catch them when they are open. [welldone.gif]

Fleming’s steak house is a steak house, but I liked it more than LG’s.

Kobe is like a Beni Hana, but the shrimp entree is delicious.

The Steak House at the Agua Caliente Casino has real potential. I had a 4* meal that could have been better with improved service. Then, sitting in the Rendezvous bar after dinner is a great way to spend an evening.

I like Las Casuelas in DTPS for the old world ambience, music, etc. The food is fine, but I’ve never survived a night after drinking their Cadillacs margaritas. So good. If KW is going, you guys would like this place.

Thanks Dietzy KW says thanks too

Thanks Soichiro. We are in RM/PD, but anywhere close by helps. Even DTPS we can do pretty easy.

Bumping this to see if anyone has updated recommendations. I can get to RM/PD or downtown PS.
Thanks.

Hi. I’ll second the recommendation for Fleming’s. It’s nothing ground breaking, but they do a very professional job that exceeded our expectations. The steaks and sides were very good, we brought our own wine, the staff was lovely and we had a terrific, relaxed time. We’ve also eaten at The Edge Steakhouse at the Ritz-Carlton. It has a lovely view and lovely staff with very good food. I prefer Fleming’s food, but the The Edge is a little more elegant if that’s what you’re after. We also brought our own wine. We tend not to travel for restaurants in PS but ensure they are walking distance from where we are staying as lying by the pool in 100 degree weather can be exhausting.

I have had several excellent special occasion dinners at Le Vallauris in Palm Springs. They have a cellar, but I have always availed of corkage there.

Thanks to you both. I will look them up.

Counter Reformation tapas and wine bar at the Parker. Fun. Casual, eat at the bar.

I made reservations at Flemings and Le Vallauris. Does nayone have a recommendation for a wine store. I looked at Total Wine’s web site for their local store. Lot of wines listed as out of stock or unavailable. Any other good options?

Jensen’s grocery stores (I think they are in Palm Desert and La Quinta) should have a good selection. For a restaurant you might want to check out Morgan’s in the Desert in La Quinta.

Cool
Thanks

Kenny, excellent call.
Great place, a grown up bar with great sound track. The menu is laid out from lighter items to heavier items. The wine list is on the reverse side and arranged similarly. Pretty easy to find good pairings. The food was delicious. The wines were all young but tasty and matched the foods well. Will definitely go back.

L’Atelier
Nice French cafe. Simple menu, cool vibe, only open for breakfast and lunch. Lunch was nice so we went back for breakfast. Fabulous fluffy quiche loraine. Great spot. Decided to have breakfast here every morning instead of the hotel.

Le Vallauris
Joe, thanks for the tip
Wonderful French restaurant. Lovely service. Took Biggio Hamina 2010 pinot. Delicious food. Excellent experience. Wine opened up as we ate. TN on CT. Excellent match for our meal - duck for my wife and lamb tenderloin for me.

Side trip to LA to see my brother
Had dinner at Manuela. Not a good meal. Under cooked duck breast with cold fat under the skin. We brought a 2004 Produttori Reserva Asili to dinner. Waiter took the bottle away and came back with empty bottle and decanter of wine. Fortunately, I’ve had the wine before, was pretty sure it was our wine.

Back in Palm Springs.
Dinner at Fleming’s Steak House. We took a 2000 Chateau Giscours which was lovely. TN on CT. Steaks were very good. Delicious Bearnaise sauce. Sauteed mushrooms and roasted brussel sprouts matched well. We enjoyed a relaxed evening.
Side note - Realized that we could make the meal at home. In addition, a slow roasted whole filet at home delivers medium rare to the edge, something that the restaurant was not able to pull off.

In summary, we had a wonderful time and look forward to going back. One week seems about the right amount of time.

SK,
Edge Steakhouse at the Ritz Carlton is fantastic. Not cheap but great food, service and view.

Agree on this. Ate there when we stayed at the Ritz last year. Great view, great dry-aged ribeye (which they do in-house)

Here for a week with my parents and kids. Looking to get one nice meal with just my wife. Counter reformation the place we should be looking?

If you want to go old school and eat like Frank Sinatra check out Melvyn,s Melvyn’s is the most Rat Pack restaurant in Palm Springs

TIC post as I have never been to Palm Springs but this place sounds like my parents would have loved it.
