Savannah, GA

Will be in Savannah this Tuesday and Wednesday to look at SCAD with my daughter. Any place that is a must eat? High end to low end, does not matter. Just some tasty grub. Thanks!

Wiley’s BBQ doesn’t suck

And just recently visited the SCAD Museum of Art for the first time. Impressive.

Thanks!

Wiley’s BBQ is indeed good. But in my not-so-humble opinion, B’s Cracklin’ Barbecue is considerably better. Their whole-hog, heritage breed pork is extra special, and the chicken, ribs, brisket, and sides are topnotch as well. http://www.bscracklinbbq.com/

Elizabeth on 37th has been around forever. Why? Because it’s consistently excellent, with the best wine list anywhere around (10,00 bottle cellar). Ask either one of the Butch brothers, owners, about off-the-list gems. http://www.elizabethon37th.net/

The Wyld is my favorite waterside joint. As Eater editor Bill Addison described it, “The Wyld appeals broadly (Caesar salad, hummus plate, tacos, burger) yet also slips in some graceful odes to local seafood and produce.” The Wyld Dock Bar

Want to experience authentic (not touristy) Savannah soul food? Then get thee to the Masada Cafe at the United house of Prayer for all People. Don’t miss the Savannah red rice. No website, but here’s a description: https://www.indagare.com/destinations/north-america/american-south_region/savannah/off-the-beaten-path-savannah/restaurants/masada-cafe

And you can’t go wrong with either The Grey or The Florence, recommended above by Brother Attick.

Fond memories of lunches at Mrs. Wilke’s Boardinghouse.

Everything served family style at tables of eight or ten. Her fried chicken was to die for as were the collard greens.

Now a question… I remember a seafood restaurant on the left side of the road going out to Tybee Island. Name ?

I also recall an excellent steakhouse in the space now occupied by Elizabeth on 37th. The Pink House was terrific then and, just fwiw, when my parents came to visit a meal at The Pirate’s House was required.

Sounds like I need to try B’s

Thanks again!!! 6am flight. Sacking out and will let the kid pick. Certainly will report back.

Or if the weather is good, just wing it and hang around the riverfront, River Street. Find a spot to eat, buy some candy at River Street Sweets.

Just ate at The Grey, delicious and the cocktail service was on point.

Lunch at Mrs Wilkes Boardinghouse is a must, get there early and don’t fear the line, best fried chicken I’ve ever had

Mrs. Wilkes has to be another trip as there is no time in the middle of the day.

Olde Pink House tonight, great food and service. Looks like baby girl is going to SCAD.

Congrats!

Thanks.

[cheers.gif] congrats!

Updates on Savannah? All info appreciated but looking for a nice dinner and bringing a bottle or two.

The Grey. So fine. Ate there again in January. Twice.

+1 on the Grey. Several visit this year have been A+. Get the foie and grits.

Aside from the old standbys…
The Atlantic offers laid back, hispter-ish vibe with a smart wine list. Have had fun here. Edit: Reading comprehension not so good, just saw that you are bringing bottles, so the wine list might not matter. But they know wine.
Husk is hit or miss, but byob friendly.
For something different…The Wyld is great for causal but smart food dockside in the marshes about 5 mins from downtown.

+1 foie and grits.
